How your Body uses Calories
Your body is like a giant piggy bank for calories. Every day you make deposits (eating) and withdrawals (like walking, talking, or just sitting around).

In fact, some people refer to Calories as the "currency of the body"

Think for a minute about a piggy bank. What happens if you put in more money than you withdraw? This is not a trick question: 10 times out of 10 there will be more money in the piggy bank.

If you take out more money from the piggy bank than you put in, then 10 times out of 10, there will be less money in the piggy bank.

Now your body is a bit more complex than a piggy bank, but it works pretty much the same way.

When your body takes in more calories (by eating) than you use in a day (by walking, talking, or just sitting around), your body saves these calories for you so that you can use them later. Now your body has good intentions (trying to keep you from starving in the future), but unfortunately all these extra calories are saved as fat.

Note:It doesn’t matter whether you get your calories from carbohydrates or protein. Your body has a very efficient chemical mechanism to turn these into fat for you.
