Your Basal Metabolism
Your Basal Metabolism is the number of calories your body needs when it is doing a minimal amount of work (like sitting or sleeping). If you want to lose weight, this is the first thing you need to know.

This number is usually between 1200 and 2400 calories per day. This will vary depending mostly on your current weight; the heavier you are, the more calories per day you need to use.

Your body has a lot of things going on that need energy: your heart beats, your lungs expand, your muscles are needed to do just about anything. Even your brain needs energy to function!

In Do-It!, you can see your basal metabolism on the personal profile tab. Since your basal metabolism does not include any exercise, and most people will do at least something in a day (like at least walk to the bathroom), we have included an Activity Level. This lets you adjust your basal metabolism for activities that you do in the normal course of a day.

Your basal metabolism does not include any exercise you do in a day. All exercise you do should be tracked separately.

For Fun:Change your amount of Daily Activity in Do-It! And see how your basal metabolism changes.
